Paz Y Flamenco: Art in the Public Interest was formed in 2006 after artistic director, Kyla Sentes, spent time living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During that time she became increasingly aware of the ways in which artistic expression could be used to further both awareness and action of social justice issues. The organization's first project was a fundraiser for Sierra Leone that involved several diverse Edmonton artists and performers and was successful in raising money to help fund the library for the Fatima Institute in the country.

Since then the artist's collective has grown to include a variety of artists and plans for a larger scale production are under way. The collective is oriented towards using artistic expression to inform and educate audiences about critical local, domestic, and global social justice issues. It aims to facilitate interdisciplinary artistic collaborations in an effort to inspire action on issues of marginalization and poverty at both the local and global community levels.

Please take the time to read about our members and help support their artistic endeavours at home and abroad!
